I’m no homeschool expert, but being homeschooled myself and now homeschooling my kids, I do feel able to answer a few common questions when you are first beginning your homeschool journey.
The most common question about homeschooling is- am I able to homeschool? As in, am I qualified to homeschool my child(ren)? The answer is yes! If you have the desire to homeschool, then yes, you are able to! Just double check your state homeschool laws to ensure you are complying with the state laws.
For this post I’m sharing what has worked for us, in regards to PreK and Kindergarten curriculum and play. Just make sure to keep in mind that every child learns differently. For us, I have found the most success teaching letters and their sounds while using ABC See Hear Do. This has been an amazing book that has helped work on both letter recognition and letter sounds. As I taught my five year old her letters and sounds, my three year old would pick up on them. Now my three year old is getting ready to turn four and we are working with her on her letter and letter sounds. My almost two year old loves to join in and it is the cutest thing ever!
We also use Let’s Play School for fun hands on practice. Each month, Chelsea has a new theme and the girls love reviewing their math and language arts using this program as well! For learning to read, we use learning dynamics Four Weeks to Read. It’s a phenominal program that my kindergarten has enjoyed using each morning! We are also supplementing with Explode the Code. I wish we had used this sooner and plan to begin it with my four year soon as she begins Four Weeks to Read. We also use a handwriting curriculum Hand Writing Without Tears.
We also play a ton, ton of games!!! There is so much math in games you probably already have! I’ll share a few of our favorites in another post!
Another great program that we use for both preK and Kindergarten is the Good and the Beautiful.

For read alouds, we use the book explorer by Let’s Play School and adapt as needed. This January we will be beginning the Chronicles of Narnia and I’m so excited!
