Halloween Sensory Tray

Who loves a good sensory tray or bin? I love a good sensory bin, but sometimes my idea is short lived on my kiddos. Anyone else? But this time I found an awesome one! I also love a good themed sensory bin, that’s about the only time I pull out all the stops. I’m so excited to share it with you all.

It’s almost October and that can only mean one thing, Halloween is coming up! Yay! I love the fall weather that accompanies this holiday, so it’s a fun time of year for me. The cool days, fire pit nights, walks in the mornings and evenings with just a little chill…oh this must be what heaven feels like. Anyone else love fall?

Now for the sensory bin! Here is what I put together:

Michaels has all of their halloween items for 60% off!! I found these different table scatter in the middle aisle section where the halloween items were. Each one has different items: pumpkins, bones, bats, and orange/black jewels. I can’t find the items online for Michaels, but I did find them on amazon. To add to the fun, I found these fun black cauldrons! They are weighty, so not easily tipped, and easy to use for little hands.

These are my favorite trays if you haven’t had a chance to purchase any. I use them for everything, sensory play, school work, painting activities and more!

Next I dyed rice two different colors. Here is how I dyed my rice:

Here is what you need: food coloring, rubbing alcohol, rice, and gallon bags. Place rice (I did somewhere between 3-4C per color) in the gallon bag, add food coloring (for richer color add more) and add 2-3 teaspoons of rubbing alcohol. Seal gallon bag and mix all around. The little ones love adding everything to the bag and squishing it around, so involve them if you have time! We then laid out the trays to dry. It doesn’t take long!

Once the rice is dyed and dried, I set up my sensory trays for the girls! So much fun!!
