Is it time to teach your preschooler how to play games? Or is your preschooler just anxious for a game to play when they see you playing a card game with your older kids or with your spouse? Check out our top ten favorite preschool games below:
Hi Ho Cherry O: I played my first game, Hi Ho Cherry O, with my two year old earlier this year and she loved it! I had never played it before, but she enjoyed and it was short enough to fit in her limited attention span. This game is great because it teaches your child to take turns and to count, but additionally I love it because they work on their fine motor skills with picking up the little cherries! So much learning in one game!
Fishing Game: This was a gift my daughter received at her third birthday party and she loves it! This game takes patience, as you have to wait for the fish to open it’s mouth to catch one using the fishing pole. It’s fun because more than one person can play at once, but you still have to patiently wait for a fish to open it’s mouth to catch one!
Zingo: Similar to bingo and is just a classic preschool game every preschooler should have or at the very least get to play! This may or may not be on my little’s gift list from Santa:-)
Pop the Pig: This game is just so much fun for everyone. Even kindergarteners and first graders love this one. Pop the Pig focuses on counting and colors. It is also one of those games that you’re preschooler can play on their own! Just make sure to keep up with all the pieces, we may be in need of a replacement Pop the Pig!
Uno Moo: This is a fun game if you’re little one is obsessed with Uno like mine is. She sees her big sisters playing Uno and it’s just so hard not to get to play! This game focuses on colors. It’s also another game that your little one can pull out and work on without needing to wait for you play with them.
Sequence Kids: If you’re like me and aren’t into the classic chutes and ladders game, this is a fun one. There are two different ones you can look into: the animals one and the alphabet one. As I mentioned earlier, my little one has a speech delay so we aren’t quite at recognizing letters ( I know it’s coming and I can’t wait!), so we have the animal version. One of our favorites!
Sneaky, Snacky Squirrel: This one is on our Santa gift list and I can’t wait! This game is highly recommended! It focuses on color learning, matching skills, and has the fine motor skills similar to Hi Ho Cherry O with the hand-eye coordination.
Go Fish: This classic game is a favorite. For my three year old, who has a speech delay this game is great for her to work on her words. I love to hear her little voice say, “Go FISH!” It’s just the cutest! This game, in the beginning, is better to play one on one as it can be overwhelming to play with more than preschooler as they are catching on to how the game is played.
Eye Found It: A newly found game that both my three year old and I love. It is a game she can enjoy with her big sisters as well. In this game, you focus on finding an object while looking over your five playing cards. The best part is that they are Disney cards, so your child gets to look at Frozen and Winnie the Pooh and more while searching for objects, so it holds their attention longer!
Tug of War: This is also a newly found card game at our house as well. This one is similar to the classic war game played with a normal deck of cards. Instead of a normal deck of cards, you get doggy cards! And it’s easier to teach your preschooler how to play war. Won’t be long til you’ll be able to pull out a normal deck of cards and play actual war after they catch on with this game!
